A New idea of recovering waste Edible Oil

Fried chicken and French fries taste very happy, but the large amount of waste cooking oil produced by fried food is a headache. Recently I saw an interesting study that provides a new way to recycle cooking oil: turn it into a raw material for 3D printing.

in this study, the researchers obtained some leftover vegetable oils from fried foods from the local McDonald's, then turned them into light-cured resin materials and put them into ready-made light-cured 3D printers. Printed out a little butterfly.

the treatment steps of these vegetable oils are not very complicated. First of all, acrylic is acidified at the unsaturated bond of vegetable oils through one-step chemical reaction, and then some photoinitiators are added to get acrylic vegetable oils. the material can be crosslinked and cured under the condition of light, which can be used for 3D printing. The printing accuracy and thermal stability of this vegetable oil-curing resin are good, and it is easier to be biodegraded compared with other resin materials.

there have been some ideas of recycling edible oil for production in the past, and the authors of this paper say that their advantage is that the light-cured resin is originally a more expensive material, so that people can get more benefits from recycling and production.

I wonder if the printed things will smell like French fries (probably not after going back and forth. )
